Every marionette production in our repertoire has an original script which contains lots of humor and original songs by the puppeteers of the Drawbridge Puppet Theater. Our complete productions are approximately 45 minutes in length, and conclude with a demonstration of 'Puppetry Arts", or a backstage tour. Therefore, the entire show lasts about one hour. Excerpts from the classic Greek Myth. Follow the journey of Perseus to discover and rid the monster Medusa. Along the way he meets the three Gray Ladies, and a hungry Sea Serpent. He also meets the beautiful Princess Andromeda. Find out what happens when Poseidon punishes the Queen for her thoughtless behavior towards his own beautiful daughters.
Aladdin is hired by the Sorcerer Mr. Fu, and is sent into a cave to retrieve a lamp for him. Aladdin discovers the old lamp, and begins to polish it, a magical genie appears and offers Aladdin the opportunity to escape the drudgery of his life. Of course, Aladdin's wish is to marry the princess Iris, but even with the genie's help he encounters some obstacles, including that of the evil Sorcerer.
The Emperor of China hears that one of the most beautiful things in his own land is the song of the nightingale. He and his courtiers take a nightingale from the nearby forest and present him as a guest at court. But when the Emperor is given a mechanical nightingale covered with jewels, he loses interest in the real bird, which flies back to its home.
Of course the mechanical bird breaks down. When the Emperor is taken deathly ill, the real nightingale appears and its song so moves Death that he turns away and the Emperor lives on.
Cinderella lives with her step mother and two step sisters. She works as a servant for them and caters to their every need. When the Prince sends an invitation to a ball held in his honor to all the villagers, Cinderella begs to go but her step mother will not let her. Cinderella cries and wishes she could attend. At that moment her Fairy God Mother appears and uses her magic so that Cinderella can go to the ball, giving her a dress, glass slippers, and turning a pumpkin into a carriage. She also informs Cinderella that this spell will only last until midnight. Find out what happens then!
Hansel and Gretel are the children of a poor hunter. Fearing starvation, they venture into the dark forest and leave a trail of breadcrumbs. Unfortunately, the various animals of the woods eat their trail of breadcrumbs, causing Hansel and Gretel to become lost. They find a house made of ginger bread and candies, and unable to resist, begin to eat it. An old woman who lives inside invites them in and prepares a bed for the night.
The woman, however, is a witch who has built the house to entice children to her, so that she may fatten and bake them. She locks Hansel in a cage, and makes Gretel her servant. While she prepares to bake Hansel, Gretel weeps bitterly and does as she is told. She orders Gretel to climb into an oven to be sure it is ready to bake, but Gretel guesses that the witch intends to bake her, and tricks the witch into climbing into the oven and closing it behind her. The Candy house rewards the children by giving them many jewels with which they return to their father.
Jack is instructed by his mother to sell their cow Buttercup. As Jack makes the deal, he is offered "magic beans" for the cow. Jack accepts the trade and returns home with the beans instead of gold. Jack's angry mother forces him to throw the useless beans into the well. As they sleep, the beans begin to grow into a gigantic beanstalk. When Jack see's the huge beanstalk, he climbs up and arrives in a land high in the clouds that happens to be the home of a big giant.
A magical fairy tells Jack about the giant
and what he needs to do.
He must capture the hen that lays golden eggs, and he and his mother will live comfortably again. But as he tries to acquire the hen, a magical harp doesn't appreciate the uninvited guest and eventually leads the giant to Jack's hiding place. The giant chases Jack down the beanstalk, and we will find out who saves the day!
A little girl called Little Red Riding Hood, walks through the woods to deliver food to her grandmother. A wolf wants to eat the girl but she naïvely tells him where she is going. He suggests the girl pick some flowers, which she does. In the meantime, he goes to the grandmother's house and gains entry by pretending to be the girl. Then, disguised as the grandmother
tries to eat Little Red Riding Hood, but join us to find out our humorous
twist on this classic 'Brothers Grimm' tale.
The story makes the clearest contrast between the safe world of the village and the dangers of the forest, It also seems to be a strong morality tale, teaching children not to "wander off the path".
Carlo Collodi's most famous story about the little wooden puppet who wishes he was a real boy. However, he must prove his worthiness to the Blue Fairy and to his papa Geppetto that he is ready to be a real boy and obey the rules he has been given. However, , the mischievous Pinocchio meets a Sly fox and cat, and the troublemaker Lampwick, who trick the puppet and cause him to get deeper into trouble. So much that when he tells a fib, something extra-ordinary happens to his nose! It is only when he is face to face with a big shark that he learns his lesson. Will poor little Pinocchio's wish come true? Will the blue Fairy grant his wish to be a real boy?
An all original script, songs and puppets from the Drawbridge Theater, tell the tale of two trolls who hope Santa Claus will take their toys with him to distribute to children on Christmas Eve. However as in every year past, Santa finds the troll toys not as nice as his elves toys, and decides not to take them. The angry trolls make a plan to decieve Santa and force him to take their toys instead...but will their plan be foiled?
On her Christening day, the baby Princess Briar Rose receives presents from her good fairies. Then the jealous fairy Putrena arrives, angry that she was not invited to the party. Her present is a curse that is fulfilled years later when the princess is a young woman. She enters a tower room in the castle and finds Putrena disguised as an old lady spinning on a spinning wheel. Briar Rose pricks her finger with a poisonous needle which causes her, and everyone in the castle to sleep. The handsome and brave Prince Charming hears the story of this beautiful Princess and vows to slay the evil dragon which protects the cursed Princess. The spell is broken only when Prince Charming kisses the beautiful Princess from her hundred year sleep.
